I am assured by the various contributors that these are real standing laws from around the United States of America. A few may at first sight appear to be sensible, but in those cases it is worth considering how they could possibly be enforced (e.g. banning smoking in bed), and even if they could, whether it is sensible to apply them to the entire state concerned rather than to the restricted circumstances where they do make sense (e.g. spitting or urination in public). I suspect some have been repealed, and a few may even be fictional, but I have no direct knowledge, so please don’t take them too seriously – this is not a law manual! This is not in any way an attack on USA – other countries, including my own, have their share of stupid laws – you can see some of them on this page.
